Animal rescue is one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever been a part of—but it’s also one of the hardest. It’s emotionally exhausting, physically demanding, and often financially draining. There are days when it feels like no matter how much you give, it’s never enough. We see things most people don’t: animals abandoned, neglected, sick, or injured—completely dependent on someone stepping in to care. With limited resources and so many in need, it’s a constant juggling act. And yet, even in the middle of all the heartbreak, there are moments that remind me exactly why we keep going.
One of those moments was a tiny 3-week-old kitten found behind a funeral home. She was absolutely covered in fleas, struggling to breathe from a severe upper respiratory infection, and so cold and weak she could barely lift her head. By the time she made it to the bottle feeder, she was on death’s door. It broke my heart to see her like that. But thanks to an incredible team of people who came together—offering medical care, supplies, time, and love—she made it. Watching her fight to live, and eventually grow stronger, was nothing short of a miracle. I’ll never forget her. And I’ll never stop being grateful for every person who stepped up to help her. It’s stories like hers that keep us going, even on the hardest days.
